Energy technology network meeting in Paris

Posted 2015-09-22 in News

First-ever energy technology network meeting convened by an IEA Executive Director and CERT Chair.

OES participated in the energy technology network meeting convened by the IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol and CERT Chair Alicia Mignone, on 18 September 2015 in Paris. The meeting, “Preparing the next 40 years of multilateral energy technology collaboration,” looked at ways to better promote the programme worldwide, particularly outside of IEA member countries.

The focus of the meeting was first to identify the necessary steps to ensure that IEA capitalises as much as possible on the excellent work carried out by all Energy Technology Initiatives, secondly to enable the Energy Technology Initiatives to fully fulfil their role as energy technology ambassadors to countries in all parts of the world and third, to enhance the communication strategy of Energy Technology Initiatives.

The attendees collectively discussed ways of enabling the full potential of the 39 independent group of experts on energy technology within the IEA, where governments and industry benefit from sharing resources and accelerating results.

The IEA strategic energy policy and engagement objectives were discussed, looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the current structures and brainstorming on ways to revamp the IEA technology-related activities. The results of this workshop will provide essential input to shape the strategic directions of the IEA Secretariat moving forward.

The OES is organised under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA) but is functionally and legally autonomous. Views, findings and publications of the OES do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the IEA Secretariat or its individual member countries.
