The first wave energy converter test site is being built under a regional development French programme. The project named SEM-REV, as the French acronym for Experimental Test Site for Wave Energy Converters, will be located on the Atlantic coast in the Pays de la Loire region and will be operational by summer 2010.
The grid connected test site project planning and development is a first experience in France. A methodology for the implementation of offshore wave energy production sites in France is hence being created. This paper describes the process for the project development and highlights some of the studies that have been carried out during the development of the SEM-REV test site.
