Site Analysis for Ocean Energy Development in Korea

Date: October 14, 2013 at 14:44 GMT

Abstract: Recently, developing the ocean energy in Korean coastal areas is widely understood as essential to achieve the national target for the renewable energy.

The objective of this study is to estimate the available capacity of ocean energy in Korea reasonably. First of all, several sites having ocean energy potential were selected and possible constraints of those areas were considered.

Moreover, the method of using existing conventional power plants as a source of developing ocean energy is especially analysed such as ocean hydropower and OTEC which uses thermal discharges of power plants. As a result of study, more realistic plans for ocean energy development could be established.
