The selection of 20 representative projects exemplifies the diverse range of ocean energy resources and technologies, including tidal and current energy, wave energy, salinity gradient energy, and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC). Each project has been chosen to illuminate the innovative advancements driving the growth of this promising sector.

Behind these projects stands dedicated teams whose unwavering commitment has driven continuous advancements in the field. Year after year, these teams have achieved significant milestones, progressing to higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), succeeding in extended operational periods, and demonstrating increased reliability. Through robust partnerships, these projects have seen substantial improvements in device technology and have gathered invaluable experience, moving ever closer to commercialization. By rigorously de-risking their technologies through extensive and intensive testing in marine environments, these developers are paving the way for the next generation of sustainable energy solutions.

The 10 key policy initiatives were selected to illustrate the commitment of governments worldwide. These initiatives, developed in collaboration with industry and academic leaders, ensure that the sector progresses towards sustainability goals with robust regulatory support and innovative policy frameworks.

Consider this publication as an appetizer to more comprehensive discussions and displays that will be featured at the International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) 2024, scheduled from September 17th to 19th, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia. Released two months ahead of the conference, this brochure provides a glimpse into what attendees can expect, offering a preliminary perspective of the ocean energy sector. It aims to not only inform but also inspire and encourage stakeholders from around the globe to engage more deeply with the innovative projects and initiatives that will be showcased at the conference.

IEA-OES Chairman Matthijs Soede remarked, "This brochure shows that the sector is making concrete progress. I would like to call global stakeholders to join forces in pursuing innovative sustainable energy solutions. It is an invitation to policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to accelerate the development of ocean energy technologies through informed dialogue and concerted policy actions."
