A Wave Resource Assessment for the European Marine Energy Centre, Orkney

Date: October 15, 2013 at 20:25 GMT

The definition of the detailed wave characteristics of a particular site for a wave energy converter is key to evaluating the likely performance of any device. Also the testing of prototype devices to provide validated evidence of their performance is fundamental to proving the concept and attracting further investment. The methods for undertaking such measurement should be representative of both the sea state and the device characteristics.

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) Limited has been established by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and its funding partners. Its aim is to stimulate and accelerate the development of marine power devices, initially through the operation of a testing centre in Orkney......

The OES is organised under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA) but is functionally and legally autonomous. Views, findings and publications of the OES do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the IEA Secretariat or its individual member countries.
