Hosted by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), the two-day meeting provided an opportunity to assess developments across the OES work programme, formally welcome Brazil as a new member and explore opportunities to strengthen international cooperation in the sector.

A central topic of discussion was how to build stronger governmental and political support for ocean energy technologies. Participants emphasised the need to move beyond communicating technological potential and develop a more compelling, evidence-based narrative highlighting the sector's contribution to energy security, economic growth, industrial development and the wider energy system.

The importance of showcasing successful projects, demonstrating tangible benefits and establishing credible pathways towards commercial deployment was also highlighted as essential to increasing awareness and accelerating the development of the sector.

As IEA-OES prepares to enter its next strategic period, the outcomes of the meeting will contribute to aligning international priorities, strengthening collaboration among member countries and reinforcing the role of ocean energy in the global energy transition.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing the sector through coordinated action, knowledge exchange and clearer communication of ocean energy's value and opportunities.
